Kodachi

Before the war, Japan's fountain pens were commonly equipped with a grind made to emulate brush strokes with thin vertical lines, thick horizontal lines, and a sharp hairline at high angles. Revived by Nobuyoshi Nagahara and passed on to his son Yukio Nagahara, the Naginata Togi grind has found fame as a bespoke option from Sailor. Now, Yukio Nagahara, an independent nib grinder at The Nib Shaper, offers a similar grind that he has named the Kodachi. Yukio Nagahara has granted me permission to offer the same grinds as he does.
Uranagi

This grind is essentially the same as the Kodachi with the main difference being the grind is flipped upside down. Regular writing will put down a thin hairline, similar to a needlepoint, while reverse writing will put down Kodachi lines. The reverse writing will tend to also be drier than a regular Kodachi, leading to finer hairlines on the ends of brush strokes.
Fude Point

Created by Nobuyoshi Nagahara as a way to increase the thickness of brush-like strokes possible from nibs, the Fude Point puts down a massive horizontal stroke. It achieves this by turning part of the nib body itself into a writing surface. Consequently, this modification is recommended only for steel nibs.
Beak Point

This nib is similar to the Fude Point but the nib is bent the other way. This makes the nib able to put down normal lines when writing regularly but offers thick Fude Point strokes on the reverse side.

*covers handling and return shipping within USA via USPS Priority Mail with signature confirmation. Insurance option is available on the order form. International shipments will be $10 + international shipping cost. Standard method is via “International Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box”.
Customers have found USPS Priority Mail with signature confirmation to be reliable when shipping to Mike-It-Work, so I would recommend the same. Please consider insurance for valuable pens. Matthew’s Nibworks is run out of a private home with a locked mailbox, but I cannot guarantee packages that are delivered during my absence.
Please make sure to clean out your pens before shipping! Pens that arrive as a mess from shipping may be subject to an additional cleaning charge.
Payment:
A PayPal invoice will be sent once the work has been completed. If you prefer an alternate payment method, please contact me.
Disclaimer: I take the utmost care with customers’ pens and strive to satisfy my customers. However, I cannot guarantee that nothing will go wrong. A bubble in the tipping from the manufacturer may ruin a grind, or the nib itself may be unusable for a specific grind. Whatever the case may be I will do my best to compensate your loss, however please know that I have my limits.
